Playing to a sold out very enthused crowd over at Brooklyn Bowl, Wednesday March 22nd. With no opener involved, They Might Be Giants took the stage to much fanfare and excitement. Filled with quirky commentary and wit. They performed 2 full sets with only a small delay between sets and 2 encores. This tour was the 25th anniversary tour for their album ‘Flood’ in which they performed all songs from it as well as numerous new tunes and old alike. The evening was an absolute fun filled event. Everybody in attendance was singing and enjoying their performance.
The first set was filled with outstanding live versions and solos for many songs from their repertoire including a few new numbers. “Stilloob” was a really interesting performance. They played the entire song in reverse and recorded it. At the beginning of the second set they played that recording in reverse prior to starting the main set. The second set had the remainder of Flood as well as a few other album songs and the final number for the second set was my personal favorite “Birdhouse in Your Soul.” With a quick exit and emergence back to the stage they closed out the evening with 2 encores consisting of a cover of Tom Glazer’s “Why Does the Sun Shine? (The Sun is a Mass of Incandescent Gas)” and “Doctor Worm.” And they followed quickly with the final encore and song of the night “James K. Polk.” They played an additional night at Brooklyn Bowl on Thursday before continuing on with the rest of their sold out tour.
