A Dirty Dozen with SKYFEVER – December 2021 (BMA)

| 15 December 2021 | Reply

According to a recent press release: “Skyfever are a band of 5 Irish guys looking to take over the world. Fearlessly releasing their debut album Is This The End Of The World in the middle of a global pandemic, they have not just survived…they have thrived! In the UK, they are a major source of inspiration and motivation for their fans. With BBC Introducing, Kerrang, Planet Rock and even Chelsea FC featuring their music, the band are on course for stardom. In the US, they were actually first introduced to audiences by the legend Alice Cooper shouting them out on his social media. Subsequently, the Carolina Panthers in the NFL started featuring their anthem ‘Keep Pounding’ at their games and by then it was only a matter of time before many US college radio stations spread the word about their spectacular array of songs and refreshing attitude. Skyfever are Luke Lang, Tyson Harding, Karl Hand, Matt Hanaphy & Dan Monaghan. Skyfever is a finalist for the 5th Annual Banger Music Awards in the following category: BEST ALTERNATIVE ROCK SONG.” We get Tyson to discuss new music, influences, and more…

1. Tell us a little about your latest release.  What might a fan or listener not grab the first or second time they listen through?  Are there any hidden nuggets you put in the material or that only diehard fans might find?

“Wild Things Grow” is about being you no matter. That feeling of utter of freedom and living your truth. In these times, that is EVERYTHING. Hidden gem is the synth inspired by an episode of Westworld. 😊

2. What got you into music, and can you tell us about the moment you realized you wanted to be a musician? Building on that, is there a specific song, album, performer, or live show that guided your musical taste?

From the moment I was born I was surrounded by music. My Dad brought up on the Beatles, Bon Jovi and Bruce Springsteen.

3. What was your reaction to being included in the Banger Music Awards process? Did you ever think what you were doing would be elevated to “award” status?

Awesome! You have supported us from day 1!!!

4. How would you describe your music to someone who’d never listened to you before? What is the one comparison a reviewer or fan has made that made you cringe or you disagreed with?

There is zero fear in our music and many of our followers have said it inspires them at the start of their day when they press play on a song like “The Wait,” “Wild Things Grow,” and “Keep Pounding.” One reviewer who shall remain nameless, he runs an Irish niche show, said that he wont be playing Christmas songs and takes delight in not playing us… our response is go read The Man In The Arena. 😉

5. If you could call in any one collaborator to do a song with, who would it be, and why?

Paul McCartney, its on our bucket list!

6. How important to you is the local music scene and acceptance by not only the fans but also your peers?

We go where we are loved so anywhere that loves us whether is North Carolina, Ohio, London, or Tennessee. If you love us we want to your local scene to be our scene! 😊 Peers, hmmmmm I think the fans matter more!

7. When your band is hanging out together, who cooks, who gets the drinks in, and who is first to crack out the acoustic guitars for a singalong?

Luke Lang haha.

8. When was the last time you were starstruck and who was it?

Never been. 😊

9. What is the best part of being a musician? If you could no longer be a musician for whatever reason, what would be your dream job?

The freedom to let the inner world out! This is the plan a, b and c. 😊

10. What is one question you would like an interviewer to ask – and what is the answer? Conversely, what question are you tired of answering?

About our songs, the meaning the behind them. We welcome all questions. 😊

11. Looking back over your career, is there a single moment or situation you feel was a misstep or you would like to have a “do over,” even if it didn’t change your current situation?

Haven’t hit that yet, every move is meant to be, every stepped long in the planning.

12. If you could magically go back in time and be a part of the recording sessions for any one record in history, which would you choose – and what does that record mean to you?

Nirvana Nevermind – it was the sledge hammer of a lot of change. We plan to do the same… watch this space.
