To steal the term from a friend, Colt Ford is a showman.  Surrounding himself with more than qualified musicians and wrapping his show in a killer setlist full of hits and fan favorites Ford knows how to deliver the goods and deliver he did on a rainy Friday night in late October.  Without an opener to get the crowd ready, Colt and crew took their spots and cranked the packed venue up from the opening notes of “It’s All” and into “Mr. Goodtime.”  Colt drew from his catalog and even dipped into some tracks forthcoming as the years winds down.  With band leader Justin Bertoldie and rhythm section anchor drummer Tim Haines leading the way musically, Colt ran through tracks from his last release We The People, Volume 1 and the upcoming Keys To The Country EP (which drops in a couple hours) as well as older tracks.  There were even some fun covers tossed in to the musical blender that is a Colt Ford show from tour to tour.  Ford always takes a moment of the show to dedicate “Workin’ On” to the Veterans in the house as well as those who are doing their duty and standing watch so we can enjoy freedoms as simple as a concert.  As a Vet of Desert Storm myself, this is ALWAYS my favorite part of the show.  Jumping from “Ride Through the Country” to the new EP’s title track “Keys to the Country” we get a one-two punch of country.  The show takes on a fun and lighter hue as Ford and band break into a medley that includes “Cold Beer,” “Waffle House,” and “Can’t You See” leading the way towards the final run of the evening before the encore.  The medley is followed by “No Trash in My Trailer” and a song that featured Colt and Jason Aldean together, “Drivin’ Around Song.”  The encore was two amazing covers including Prince’s “Let’s Go Crazy” and “Skynyrd’s “Gimme Three Steps” before closing the evening with arguably the biggest hit Colt of the evening, “Dirt Road Anthem” co-penned between Ford and his ‘little brother’ Brantley Gilbert.  I am always pleased to see how happy the audience is after Colt leaves the stages and sends us all home with his music running through our brains waiting for the time we can see him perform once again.
