It has been a long time coming, but the evening finally arrived – Violet Chachki brought her amazing routines, glamourous outfits, and stellar attitude to Detroit for not only the first show of the A Lot More Me tour, but as she informed all of us through the show, this was her first solo performance as headliner of her own show and tour, even jokingly referring to it as the dress rehearsal for the rest of the tour. With cool video introductions as well as intimate burlesque and performance pieces from her support cast of three dancers, Violet rolled out several well choreographed, costumed, and music-filled acts that were stimulating to the senses – from the sequins to the shoes and from the music to the lighting, there was nothing unintentional about any part of the show. Ms. Chachki entertained with beautiful burlesque routines and comedy, but it seemed natural, as did her “Queen” attitude that shone through from moment to moment. There were simple pieces that relied on lighting and shadows to help fill in some blanks while other routines were forward and smacked you over the head with their sexuality and / or sensuality. Without giving away to much, there are product tie ins, references to gumballs, and a SHIT LOAD of banter and play between Violet and the crowd — especially one attendee Rachel who apparently was late for a meet & greet, got up at inopportune moments during the show, and generally provided entertainment for all in attendance. While there are fleeting references to drag and Chachki’s previous association with RuPaul’s Drag Race, there were moments during the show there was no doubt she was all woman and definitely in charge of every detail. In addition to everything else, she also performed aerial acts that added to the evenings entertainment. Leave your preconceived notions at the door and grab tickets for an entertaining evening that splashes fun, music, and some sensual performances together over the course of two sets and almost two hours.
