Long gestating, Nicole Warner’s debut solo album is, if I had to sum it up in one simple word, nice.

She’s long been singing backing vocals for Aussie legend (and husband) Dave Warner, not to mention raising a family, but this record was always on the ‘To Do List’, ever present in her mind and heart.

Featuring thirteen tracks co-written by Dave Warner and guitarist Martin Cilia (The Atlantics, Mental As Anything, Dave Warner’s From the Suburbs) the vibe here is soft country pop – though, thankfully, not in a modern Taylor Swift kind of way.

Flatbed Ford, the title track and Too Scared To Run are dust kicking red dirt tunes, Junkies Drunks & Robbers is a revenge road trip with the slightest shade of Bobby McGee, Didn’t Vote For This Emotion is poppier and bouncier than anything else on show.

Final track Don’t Go is a crooned love song featuring Dave Warner channelling a little piece of Elvis-like schmaltz, and it’s a lovely way to end the album. Like I said – nice.

Nicole could probably have trimmed a couple of songs without anyone blinking an eye, but despite being a little overlong this is a nice, easy listening album that she can certainly be very proud of.
