I have to admit – the press release for the EP from Repenter peaked my curiosity and prompted me to check out the stream sent over. Opener and focus track “So Sick” kicks the EP off and the song incorporates different sounds and vibes that mesh perfectly in the mix. The musical accompaniment sounds eerily familiar, but damned if I can put my finger on it… which tells me this is a great track that survives on its originality and sound. “Skeltons” is a track that seems to come at you from a more ethereal groove than a hard rock vibe. This song has a great groove that weaves in some cool time changes and a moody vocal that adds depth at the bridge. This song stands out for me while listening through the 15 minute 4-track EP. “So Far From Feeling” is the most diverse track on the short collection and gives us a different sound from the band to wrap our ears around. The intensity of the track grows as the song shifts gears after the verse and chorus lead us into the bridge and outro. Closer “Complicated” draws you in compliments of the killer vocals from Holly Winter, which punctuates the slower tempo of the track. The lyrics are poignant and perfectly delivered, while the musical accompaniment provides a solid foundation for the song and gives the EP as solid an end as there was a beginning. If this is simply Chapter 1, I can’t wait to hear where Chapter 2 leads us…
