Bret Michaels and the BMB made their seemingly annual stop at SoundBoard inside Detroit’s MotorCity Casino and as always, they brought the capacity crowd nothing but a good time… With precision, the man and his band hit the stage within minutes of the projected start time and they kicked the evening into high gear from the first notes of “Talk Dirty To Me” and they didn’t let up, with the exception of the seminal ballads they unleash every night. From that opening song and into “Ride The Wind” the band delivered high energy and Bret himself was all smiles and giving high fives to anyone he could reach as the audience sang along and braced themselves for a night of killer rock and roll. A couple covers – “Sweet Home Alabama” and “Your Mama Don’t Dance” kept the party going, with guitarist Pete Evick keeping things rolling along with solos we have all come to know and love, while putting his own musical stamp on them sonically. The two previously referenced ballads, “Something To Believe In” and “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” sandwiched the rousing rocker “Unskinny Bop” in the middle of the set, allowing the crowd time to take a slight breather as the set raced toward a cool finish. The bands rhythm section of drummer Mike Bailey and bassist Eric Brittingham along with keyboardist Rob Jozwiak anchored the set and kept the timing locked in. After the great rendition of “Every Rose Has Its Thorn,” the band took us through two classic Poison tracks that no Bret Michaels show is complete without – “Look What The Cat Dragged In” and the very appropriately titled “Nothin’ But a Good Time.” While the packed house never took a minute to sit down and coast through the set, it was amazing to see as much energy flowing throughout the venue, from the stage to the audience and back on the last song of the evening as there was during the first song. Detroit never lets Bret and his band down simply because they have never let us down. I cannot wait to see them when they roll through town once again!
