Cine Vivo brings Latin America to Perth – Short Film Competition Submissions close soon

Cine Vivo Perth Independent Latin American Film Festival will again celebrate Latin American culture through cinema – as well as a range of other arts performances.

The Festival will open on 26 October and run until 2 December at a range of indoor and outdoor avenues across Perth and Fremantle.

While screen component of this year’s festival will feature original stories from a diverse range of filmmakers, the festival will feature far more than just film: it will be a full cultural immersion and a delight for all the senses.

Festival-goers will be able to experience the very best in Latin American film, dance, music and art on each night of the program, and Perth’s best local family restaurants will be serving up traditional, authentic recipes on each night of the festival.

With the themes of human rights and migration threading through the 2018 program, the festival will explore the most relevant and pressing issues of our time, telling stories through all forms of art, letting us see the world through different eyes and experience culture from different perspectives.

Cine Vivo Perth Independent Latin American Film Festival Director Rafael Baro said the themes of human rights and migration would be an integral part of the 2018 program.

“This year’s program includes Latin films with beauty, depth and intensity from an incredible, diverse range of talented film makers from across the Latin American continent,” Rafael said.

“There are films to make you laugh, films to make cry and most importantly, films to make you learn.”

The 2018 program also includes a celebration of 100 years of Juan Rulfo, one of Mexico’s most celebrated film, literary and visual artists in the film Las Imágenes De Rulfo, as well as the film Azougue Nazare, which provides a unique look at the culture of a small Brazilian town where the young people don’t hold rap battles, but samba battles.

The much anticipated Short Film Competition will once again showcase the best new talent in film making from across the globe, with submissions still open. Films with a focus on human rights and migration are encouraged to enter their works via https://filmfreeway.com/CINEVIVO

An Educational Program has also been added to the festival program, to open dialogue and create connections between story telling projects in Latin American and Australia.

The Cine Vivo Perth Independent Latin American Film Festival is presented by Cine Vivo, a not-for-profit association dedicated to using film, food, music, art and dance to build bridges between Latin America and Australia by offering opportunities to share, connect and learn together. The Festival is supported by the International School of Western Australia, the Wesley Quarter and Aussizz Migration & Education Consultants.
