According to a recent press release: “My Secret Circus (MSC) mesh together Alt’ metal, rhythm and catchy vocals to create a distinctive sound. Taking you on a ride of energetic anthems, this Melbourne, Australia rap/rock outfit are now about to launch their new music to the world. The forth-coming recorded music has been a work in progress, and after a few abbreviated starts MSC have evolved and are excited to continue the process that have brought them to this point.” We get MSC’s Dan Marazita to discuss new music, influences, and more in our 10 Quick Ones…

1. Tell us a little about your latest release.  What might a fan or listener not grab the first or second time they listen through?  Are there any hidden nuggets the band put in the material or that only diehard fans might find?

“The War Game” track is in your face, reality of the battle that one may face in war zone and the affects of the aftermath it leaves behind but still continuing to battle on. It came about from a peace of poetry i wrote in high school actually. Moving house I found this book and the song was born.

2. What got you into music, and can you tell us about the moment you realized you wanted to be a musician?

My father is a drummer so he introduced me at a young age building that back bone for beats it felt natural and that first feeling of going to your first show is magic. Whether your a musician or not music is an expression it’s an important cog in day to day life.

3. Who would be your main five musical influences?

The boys in the band would all have different ones but speaking for myself: Rage Against The Machine, Faith No More, Notorious BIG/Tupac, System Of A Down.

4. If you could call in any one collaborator to do a song with, who would it be?

Mike Patton

5. How would you describe your music to someone who’d never listened to you before?

It’s hard to place us – wWe have rap with Melodies heavy riffs and chord progression with dark electronics. The live show is energetic and action packed.

6. What’s the best thing about being a musician?

Expressing yourself through music and energy. Writing about things that mean something and doing that for someone that may need to hear it at a point in their life’s creating music for someone that connects to it and relates is special.

7. When the band are all hanging out together, who cooks; who gets the drinks in; and who is first to crack out the acoustic guitars for a singalong?

Lol a sing along… Well I don’t mind my hand in the kitchen. Jimbo (drums) would be getting drinks. Shane would be making some noise and Vinny would be an hour and half late lol.

8. If you weren’t a musician, what would be your dream job?

Scuba instructor in Fiji lol. Na, not sure need to think about that one.

9. Looking back over your career, is there a single moment or situation you feel was a misstep or you would like to have a “do over”?

I think things happen for a reason and if everyone knew the right thing to do there wouldn’t be any mistakes, Which Would Just be boring. No regrets what’s done is done can’t change it but can write the future.

10. If you could magically go back in time and be a part of the recording sessions for any one record in history, which would you choose – and what does that record mean to you?

Would of been great to sit in with Jim Morrison and from The Doors. Very interesting to see.
