The classics meet metal during the Evanescence Synthesis tour. Amy Lee and company are supported by a full orchestra on Synthesis, reworking hit songs as well as two new releases. The Palladium provided the perfect venue for the unique collaboration. The 1,600 seat theatre is stunning with classic European styling, domed ceiling and massive columns. The show had been sold out for months and every seat was filled well before show time. A diverse crowd with a variety of age range was present. The 28-piece orchestra opened with “Moonlight Sonata” followed by pieces from Beethoven, Mozart, Faure, Rota, and Elfman. After a short intermission, Evanescence took the stage opening with “Overture.” As other members stayed seated in the background, Amy Lee took the spotlight dressed in a flowing red gown perfect for the operatic theme in which she was the Prima Donna. The crowd followed suite staying seated with applause and cheers only between songs, and sheer silence during the performance. Amy’s voice was in full display in this setting. She was melodic, powerful, and showed her incredible range. She shared a few personal comments during the show. One if which was that “Immortal” was not initially one of her favorite songs. Over the years, however, it has gained more meaning and relative to her life. During “Imperfection” she advised not to focus on our flaws, but embrace them for they make us unique. She gave thanks to the incredible local musicians who have been supporting them in each city throughout the tour.  After a sixteen song set, the group walked off the stage. Amy returned to play her song “Speak to Me.” The other members returned for the final two songs. A standing ovation was given as they took a bow. The production was amazing and the venue spectacular. The current tour with orchestra support is an absolute must see.
