I love getting new music – whether I buy it or get it mailed to me, it is always fun checking out something new… even better if it is something I dig listening to. A recent addition to my collection was a 3-track demo from an Swiss band, Dizzy Fox. These guys deliver an 80’s glam metal sound on the solid tracks. “Wicked” kicks this off with a killer groove that grows and builds through the verse, into the chorus, and even into the bridge. This song highlights the guitars at times, the vocals at others, and even allows the rhythm section to carry the load. “Bite It!” opens up with a very old school metal vibe, but shifts gears and marries a heavier sound with the party-like vibe of the 80’s sound. The guitars kick in after an extended intro and set the pace and tone for the rest of the track – and be sure to check out the solo at the bridge. The drumming is heavy-handed and gives the song a solid cadence. “Spirit” is a fun tune that swirls together the guitars, vocals, drums, and bass without blurring the different tones and textures that make up the bands sound. The song has all of the components of a great late 80;s rock radio hit, including an anthemic vocal and head-banging groove. I hope these guys can carry the sound and momentum from this short collection over to their release that is soon to follow hopefully.
