SPECTACULAR DAVID BOWIE COMMEMORATIVE EVENT BACK IN 2018

Following on from the phenomenally successful inaugural Mind Warp Pavilion event in 2017, two years on from the icon’s untimely demise; we again celebrate the memory of David Bowie and his unrivalled contribution to six decades of music in The Warp Pavilion 2 at the Gate One Theatre, Claremont Showgrounds, featuring 40+ musicians, live art, DJ, projections and more.

Over 40 West Australian musicians from all disciplines will take to the big stage to pay homage to this towering talent, many of whom we loved in MWP1 along with some new faces with their own special Bowie interpretations. The three live music sets will be interspersed with DJ, Claude Mono spinning a combo of Bowie tunes, collaborations, and covers plus more than a few surprises to add into the mix, to be announced.

THE MIND WARP PAVILION 2: WE CAN BE HEROES JUST FOR ONE DAY…

“He was one of the defining artistic voices of our time,” says MWP2 MC, broadcaster, academic and noted Bowiephile, Adam Trainer.

MWP ANNUAL EVENT HERE TO STAY

Since the very sad and untimely loss of David Bowie in January 2016, there has been much discussion around his contribution to music, visual art, fashion and sexual politics. The conclusion is unanimous, his influence on these things, and popular culture across the board, was pervasive.

The outpouring of grief at the time of his passing was on a scale, the ubiquitous magnitude which we have rarely experienced in our lifetimes. He was the forward guard of the zeitgeist for decades and we followed him more religiously than your average zealot.

The Mind Warp Pavilion event in January of this year that celebrated the first anniversary of the British Icon’s death was a resounding success. It was so well received, from musicians and the audience alike, that we recognised the need for this to be an annual event and so MWP2 came to pass.

At MWP1, I was overwhelmed by the diligence of the 45 local musicians, both young and not so young, whose attention to detail contributed to a fitting tribute to David Bowie. To the true Bowie aficionado like myself, it made my heart swell. For those who wanted to remember his vast contribution, their dedication to the dance floor was a testament to their delight.
