WA MUSIC INDUSTRY WAMAWARDS ► NOMINEES & PARTY ANNOUNCED + PUBLIC VOTING OPENS
As part of WAMFest presented by Drug Aware, we’re excited to reveal the 2017 WAMAwards nominees. This year the list is led by Methyl Ethel, with a total of 7 nominations capping off what’s been a huge year for the mesmerising quartet. Coming up next is the captivating songstress and BIGSOUND Levi’s Music Prize victor Stella Donnelly with 6 noms, followed by recent triple j Feature Album-releasing rockers Tired Lion and long-time pop juggernaut San Cisco with 5 noms each. With 4 nominations each are the catchy, politically-charged wordsmith Ziggy Ramo, funky soul orchestra Odette Mercy & Her Soul Atomics, the hypnotising gothic post-punk enigmas Nerve Quakes, wall-of-sound heavy rock mainstays RAG N’ BONE and Afro-Peruvian style jazz drummer Daniel Susnjar. And then with 3 noms each, Voyager, POW! Negro, POND, Boat Show, SLUMBERJACK, Memory of Elements, Feels, Carla Geneve, Drapht and WAYJO.
It’s also worth noting that a STACK of the multi WAMAwards-nominated artists are amongst the 200+ artists now playing WAMFest presented by Drug Aware, happening 1-5 November, plus the Regional festivities the week before. On the Saturday Live’s free program alone there’s multi-nom artists Stella Donnelly, Riley Pearce, Rag ‘n’ Bone, FOAM, Ziggy Ramo, Ralway Bell, Demon Days, Soukouss Internationale, Beni Bjah, BOAT SHOW, Sydnee Carter, John Bennett, Lucy Peach and, well, the list goes on, and on, and ON! This year saw consultation with category specific specialists in the creation of nomination panels, from which the nominees were selected. 350+ industry judges are now commencing voting to decide the winners of the craft and industry awards.
All music lovers now also have their chance to decide the winners in six Public Voted Awards, including Most Popular Live Act, Most Popular Event and Most Popular Video. For the first time ever, the popular categories also expand beyond the usual 5 or so nominations, with longer lists and the ability to vote for acts not on the lists provided, truly making it a popular vote. This is with thanks to Major Media Partner TheMusic.com.au, whom are hosting the WAMAwards voting. Votes need to be in by 11.59PM WST Wednesday 18 October.

After a sold-out event last year, the WAMAwards returns to Perth’s live music and multi-purpose venue Gate One Theatre at Claremont Showgrounds. This year’s coveted WAMis will be announced during an evening peppered with performances from some of WA’s most exciting talents. Due to the event’s limited capacity, #WAMAwards tickets will be available strictly by invite to nominated acts, WAMCon speakers plus limited tickets available to the public. Tables are also available, with food and beverages included in the ticket price. Last year’s WAMAwards tables filled within a week, so make sure to get in quick when tickets go on-sale via Show Tickets very soon.
