Lords Of Acid is one of those bands that doesn’t tour much, but when they do, their fans – and those wanting to experience the spectacle for themselves – flock to the shows, regardless of the venue. The latest swing through Detroit was no different, as music lovers united and packed Saint Andrews Hall on a Thursday night waiting for the music and antics that are part of a Lords Of Acid show.
Ever a rotating menagerie of artists and musicians, the usual standalone constant over the years Praga Khan was no where to be seen when the band hit the stage. Having seen them at the now defunct Blondie’s back in 2010, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect with a totally new lineup. The only holdover from that last tour was lead singer DJ Mea. The band behind her tackled the music with attitude and strength. The tour, to commemorate the anniversary of Voodoo-U saw a lot of the songs being dusted off for the first time in years, if not ever. Assisting DJ Mea on the mic was new addition Devon Disaster, who had joined the band and tour just days before the show. The rest of the players on stage filling out the rest of the band were drummer Galen Wailing and guitarist Joe Haze, both from the band <PIG> and bassist DieTrich Thrall from Doyle W. Von Frankenstein’s rhythm section. These guys all tackled the songs head on and delivered with each track they played. With Praga absent, Roland stepped in and took over behind the keyboards, keeping everything flowing and on track. If you dig a good blend of Techno and Industrial metal, be sure to check out this tour as it rolls through your town… I know I might try and catch another show when they roll through Toledo at the end of October…
