DIZZEE RASCAL & THE AVALANCHES HIT 2018 PERTH FESTIVAL
The Movers are coming. We dare you to keep your dancing feet still.
Perth Festival is bringing you the bangers, with Dizzee Rascal and The Avalanches set to ignite the mainstage at Chevron Gardens this summer.
In a Gardens season where you will have no choice but to move or be moved, the Rascal bombs the bass at Elizabeth Quay on Saturday 17 February and The Avalanches roll out a mountain of mind-bending beats on Sunday 25 February.
From the soles of your feet to the inner recesses of your heart, Chevron Gardens is the place where musical memories will be made as Perth Festival returns to Elizabeth Quay from 9 February to 4 March.
Dizzee Rascal and The Avalanches tickets go on sale at 8am, 12 October AWST, for Friends of the Festival, Handsome Tours (Dizzee Rascal) and Secret Sounds (The Avalanches) pre-sale. General public sales open at 7am on 13 October AWST.
The first Chevron Gardens show to be announced, Ben Folds, sold out in three days, so be quick to snap up tickets to our boogie nights under the city lights. The complete Chevron Gardens line-up will be revealed, alongside the full Perth Festival program, on 9 November.
Dizzee Rascal hits Perth following the release of his sixth and latest album Raskit, another change of direction for the hip-hop artist who was just 18 when he changed the face of British music with his grime-defining 2003 debut Boy in Da Corner.
‘This UK pioneer laid the foundations for a scene that continues to fizz and pop with innovation,’ says Perth Festival contemporary music programmer Clara Iaccarino. ‘I’m so excited to bring Dizzee to Perth. He absolutely epitomises my quest to bring you the bangers this summer.’
The Avalanches create electronic dance heaven, most famously on their legendary debut album Since I Left You, a 60-minute melting pot of their collective influences sampling disco to hip-hop and everything in between.
It was a 16-year wait for their follow up, Wildflower, heralded by the irresistible hit single ‘Frankie Sinatra’ as the band slimmed down to the duo Robbie Chater and Tony Di Blasi. All about feel, The Avalanches celebrate new love, childhood playfulness and wistful sadness too.
‘The Avalanches are a veritable blender of musical influences from disco treats to indie pop,’ says Iaccarino. ‘They know how to bring the party and their sonic universe is as compelling as it is danceable. You won’t be sitting still for this show!’
