A collection of tracks from Golden Palace’s mid-late 2000’s, hitherto unreleased on CD, this is, as the liner notes attest, “one for the fans.”
Golden Palace’s talents revolve around the songwriting talents of vocalist Alex Goss and guitarist Joseph Kimbrell (who you may be more familiar with these days as Vitne), either individually or together. Goss’s style leans towards the alt pop-rock with a hint of the quirky irresistibility of the likes of The Cars, while Kimbrell’s leans more towards the darker, more gothic-new wave sound sound he would go on to explore with Vitne.
Accordingly, the material here lacks a little cohesiveness, but this isn’t meant to be anything other than a collection of their harder to find tracks, so such nit-picking is irrelevant.
Cruisin’, A Lone Cactus in Missouri, Free, Bleed Me Dry, Royal Nights and the Kimbrell-sung I’m Ready For My 40 show a great, well-rounded overview of Golden Palace’s sound, and provide plenty of good time rock n’ roll moments to touch you there.
