10 Quick Ones with RALF DIETEL from KRASHKARMA – May 2017

According to a recent press release: “Alternative Metal Duo KRASHKARMA (from Los Angeles) has been coined as “The White Stripes of Metal” with their singing female drummer intertwining with a guitar sound Frankenstein could take credit for creating. The dynamic on stage between the two vocalists capture a yin and yang that keeps your eyes peeled, your head banging and your lips belting out your new favorite songs.” We get Ralf Dietel from the band to answer our 10 Quick Ones about the upcoming release and more…

1. Tell us a little about your latest release.  What might a fan or listener not grab the first or second time they listen through? Are there any hidden nuggets the band put in the material or that only diehard fans might find?

For our last release we rented a house in Los Angeles and converted the garage into a studio.  When we had the option to record the drums in Dave Grohls famous studio we decided against it.  For us it was more important to have a quality performance and time to be creative than having the best drum sound in the world with a time restraint on creativity!

2. What got you into music, and can you tell us about the moment you realized you wanted to be a musician?

When I studied sociology and realized that all these poor folks around me have nothing more in life. I was gifted with a passion for music and knew right then that I have to use it!

3. Who would be your main five musical influences?

KISS, AC/DC, ABBA, METALLICA, SLAYER

4. If you could call in any one collaborator to do a song with, who would it be?

Corey Taylor from Stone Sour/ Slipknot

5. How would you describe your music to someone who’d never listened to you before?

Songs with riffs, not riffs trying to be songs.

6. What’s the best thing about being a musician?

You make your own schedule and no one can tell you shit.

7. When the band are all hanging out together, who cooks; who gets the drinks in; and who is first to crack out the acoustic guitars for a singalong?

We are just a 2 piece band so Niki is usually getting the food ready while I fix everything that breaks. We whistle while we work.

8. If you weren’t a musician, what would be your dream job?

Hotel tester – you travel around and check out new cities and new beds!

9. Looking back over your career, is there a single moment or situation you feel was a misstep or you would like to have a “do over”?

A success story is a series of missteps, but they are all part of what we are. I am pretty happy about how life is going and wouldn’t change a thing!

10. If you could magically go back in time and be a part of the recording sessions for any one record in history, which would you choose – and what does that record mean to you?

I would be part of when Disturbed recorded “Down With The Sickness” just to see everyone’s look on their face when the singer came up with the brilliant lyric that I would describe as a monkey sound – Uuuuua-a-a-a!
