Being a casual fan of the band, I am aware of a number of hits from the Dandy Warhols but after watching them tonight I began to discover I knew a lot more of their music than I first thought.

I was super bummed out that I didn’t bring my ear plugs for this gig as the high frequency noise rock that emanated from the stage left me with my ears ringing: these guys are loud! Be warned kids!

The more known songs from the band were left towards the end of the evening as they filled the first hour worth of material from their catalogue which at times bordered on getting a bit long winded with the noise /repetitive factor, especially considering that a lot of their songs have the same tempo.

Cousins front man Courtney Taylor-Taylor and drummer Brent DeBoer do have some great vocal harmony chemistry between them and that showed when things picked up tempo as they went into the hits for the tail end of their set. Its no surprise the crowd picked up at this point too – Bohemian Like You sounded absolutely beasty; We Used to be Friends and Boy’s Better were played in quick succession.

There was very little interaction from the band tonight, just basically it was letting the music do the talking. The band left the stage with the Perth fans waiting for an encore but unfortunately the band never came back on – either that or I didn’t wait long enough.

The Dandy Warhols were just starting to get cooking and the audience sensed that too, but I guess the crowd left wanting a bit more. If the set was balanced out with a few more crowd favourites, possibly the outcome would have been different. I know the Dandy Warhols have a couple more hits up their sleeve, and tonight it felt as if they may have missed a few.
