Listening to Brits Headline Maniac gives me visions of the early-‘80s video clips, where shaggy-haired singers sporting cool shades sang catchy, anthemic choruses with absolutely no chance of being criminally labelled pre-this or post-that.
Behind them, guitarists with cheeky glints in their eyes and flamboyant collars on stylish-for-the-times sheer-materialed shirts made music which you could – and would – dance to, make love to, and shake your blood to – probably all at the same time.
Headline Maniac aren’t throwbacks in any way, but their music brings all the lack of pretention, the excellent skills, the instantly memorable melodies, of those times, and you can’t help but love the way this album makes you feel.
To some, that might sound simple, but to me, it’s simply ace. If you like rock n’ roll with the pure spirit of Cheap Trick, The Wildhearts, Jason & the Scorchers and the like, you need this album.
Some other stuff you might dig
