LIVE: GHOST – May 4, 2016 (Knoxville, TN)
Venue: Tennessee Theatre
City: Knoxville, TN
Date: May 4, 2016
Review and Photographs by: Jeffrey Everett
Ghost returned to Knoxville for the first time in over 4 years and by the crowd’s response it was long overdo. Many were in costume, with face paint or ghoul masks. The theatre was full by the time the light dimmed. Cathedral music and chanting set the backdrop as the group took the stage. The crowd was electric and sang in unison throughout the night. Though Ghost is a Grammy winning metal band, I found them to be much more melodic and the guitar riffs precise and controlled. Papa Emeritus III was engaging all night and brought 2 sisters of sin on stage for communion with blood. The five nameless ghouls alpha, omega, wind, water and earth are technically gifted musicians. They performed in a controlled, orchestrated manner that was studio quality. Their lyrics are dark and their appearance clearly has an anti-religious theme, but Ghost is much more than a novelty. The stage presence and music are the real deal; it is easy to see why they have a loyal fan base!
