Dawes came to Knoxville on a Friday night and everyone was ready to party. Taylor Goldsmith said it was the first sellout on the current tour and they planned a few extra songs in appreciation. A short recording from Purple Rain played in tribute to Prince as they took the stage. They sounded amazing with soulful guitars and extended jams throughout the night. Griffin Goldsmith came out from behind the drums, and joined his brother and keyboardist Lee Pardini for acoustic versions of “How Far We’ve Come” and “Take Me Out of the City.” Guitarist Duane Betts and bass player Wylie Gelber completed the group. Security let fans move stage side mid show, which got the crowd even more involved. Taylor said they decided to forego an encore break so no one could sneak out early. I doubt that would have been the case as everyone was having a great time and Dawes was putting on one the best shows Knoxville has seen this year! They ended the night with “All Your Favorite Bands.” Mid song he turned the mic out to the crowd, which sang every word! It was a fitting conclusion for a great performance and fun night for all lucky enough to grab a ticket in time.
