I am never sure what to believe when I read a press release on new bands – or at least new to me.  The latest in a long line of bands I have learned about over the years is Minnesota-based rockers Sick Of Sarah, who are touring to promote their latest release, a 6-track EP titled Anthem.  Opening the disc with a garage rock sound wrapped around a fuzzed out alternative groove, “Stereo” creates a cool vibe that establishes a path for the rest of the tracks on this disc.  “Bars Full Of Strangers” has a great Shirley Manson led Garbage meets Liz Phair feel that builds through the verses and chorus.  The guitar work is cool and adds a bit of depth to the track.  “Blind” has chugging guitars that keep the track moving, while the rhythm section keeps the tempo steady and solid.  The vocals, both lead and background, accentuate the mood of the lyrics.

“Rooftops” brings a throwback 80’s feel to the disc while holding on to the modern spin the band has.  The vocals are crisp and well-suited to the guitars and rhythm section, which swirl and bring The Cure to mind at times, while the chorus builds into an anthemic gem.  “Everything’s Beautiful” introduces a cool punk meets riot grrl feel, without losing the bands pop sensibility that is evident on the other tracks.  The songs basic approach allows it to standout as one of the better tracks on the disc.  The drumming is great on this track and gets the foot tapping.  Closer “Contagious” has a bit hurried tempo that works to offset the other tracks on the disc.  The guitars chug and lift the vocals during the verse, while the pacing is anchored by the rhythm section.
