Perth band Psychonaught kicked off proceedings with their own interesting melting pot of styles and from what I could see they had a pretty decent following and could really get the crowd moving.
Fast forward and HELLYEAH! hit the stage. Seeing Vinnie Paul and the reception he received was like welcoming royalty into the room. They kicked off with the track Soul Killer taken from the band’s most recent album Blood for Blood Powerful would be a great way to describe this track and the title track Blood For Blood followed in quick succession and at this point the crowd was hanging from the rafters. Demons In The Dirt followed promptly and just three songs in you could feel the energy in the room and it was AMAZING, there is no other way to describe it. Each member was absolutely punishing their instruments not least of all front man Chad Grey who is a dynamic frontman with passion oozing from every orifice. Highlights included Cowboy Way, with a nice segueing of the tracks Moth and Hush, whilst Say When had the crowd absolutely jumping, literally.
I guess the only draw back during the show was the amount of chatter between songs from Chad and time could have been better spent squeezing more songs into the set. That being said HELLYEAH! put on one hell of a show, pardon the pun. You could really tell that they were in a party mood: Alco Haul’n Ass was sung by just about everyone in the room and at this point much beer had been spilt and drank. The punters had been given a master class on how to have a great time! I for one can’t wait for next time HELLYEAH! come to Australia
