Four Irishmen with a penchant for blues rock in general and AC/DC in particular, Screaming Eagles soar on their second album Stand Up And Be Counted, delivering ten songs with guts, power and an instinctively anthemic accessibility.
From opener Ready For The Fall – which sets the scene with a gigantic riff, locomotive rhythm section and ripped-velvet vocals – through to closer 27 Club – a tour de force by all four members, with the spotlight bouncing from Adrian McAleenan’s scorching lead guitar and Chris Fry’s vocals.
This is a retro release in many ways, from the not-an-ounce-of-fat ten tracks, to the organic sound of the instruments, Screaming Eagles hark back to some classic rock glory days, but – crucially – drag that aesthetic into the modern day: Stand Up And Be Counted sounds vital, electric, enormous. Not to mention tailor-made for rock radio and stadium crowds.
