Hollywood is currently delivering an endless supply of reboots, remakes, book and comic adaptations, and new instalments in franchises. There are not many original ideas being thrown out to the audience at all.

If you want originality, look no further than the short film market. There is an absolute abundance of originality going on in the short film world, from the minds of some very creative people, who remain largely unknown.

Take Kung Fury for example. This is a 30 minute masterpiece, made from a crowd funded $600,000 budget by writer/director David Sandberg, who also stars as the titular Kung Fury. Taking into consideration that it features dinosaurs, ninjas, Nazis, time travel, and a cameo by David Hasselhoff, it’s safe to say that the film is about as over the top as you can get.

Kung Fury knows exactly what it is; a parody of the mega budget action films of the 80’s and 90’s. The humour is very tongue in cheek, and the visual effects are awesome. Seriously, how often do you get to see somebody flip a car with a skateboard?

If you have some time to kill, I strongly recommend that you take the 30 minutes required to watch Kung Fury. Suspend your disbelief for half an hour, and just enjoy it for what it is.

If somebody in Hollywood is paying attention, they should option this for a full length feature film as soon as possible. They’d damn sure get my money!
