Lloyd Spiegel releases double live album & heads out on 25th Anniversary Tour
2015 sees acoustic blues phenomenon Lloyd Spiegel celebrate 25 years on the bandstand with the release of a new double live album and extensive national tour.
Recorded over two sold out shows at The Wonderland Spiegeltent this past March, the new “Double Live Set” is a 25 track anthology featuring Lloyd Spiegel at his absolute best. The release highlights Spiegel’s huge voice, blazing finger-style guitar playing and the personality-fuelled songwriting that has seen him wow audiences around Australia and the world over the past two-and-a-half decades.
The album’s track list follows Spiegel’s musical journey and includes blues classics from the likes of John Lee Hooker, Robert Johnson, and ‘Brownie’ McGhee, and tunes from his Australian mentors Alex Legg and ‘Dutch’ Tilders also get the Spiegel treatment; all of this sitting comfortably alongside Lloyd’s originals, comprising reworked live versions of the best work from his back catalogue.
Spending a quarter century on the road as an independent musician is no small feat for any artist, but for 35-year-old Lloyd Spiegel, it’s a milestone that celebrates a unique story in Australian music. Welcomed into Melbourne’s thriving blues community while still in primary school, Spiegel has gone on from child prodigy to become one of Australia’s big guns of the guitar with a contemporary style that maintains tradition and authenticity without sacrificing originality.
Lloyd’s 25th Anniversary Tour takes him to most capital cities, along with regional dates, with 25 shows winding over the months of June, July and August.
Double Live Set is available from all good retailers and online from 1st July 2015, with iTunes pre-order available from 18th May.
“Spiegel has stamped himself as one of the best songwriters in the country, regardless of genre, of history, of ANYTHING. It’s a powerhouse of brutal honestly.” – Rhythms Magazine
“a guitarist almost without peer … Spiegel deconstructs how the blues guitar is supposed to operate, makes sweet love to it, then kicks it out the back door.”
– Australian Guitar Magazine
