“Sometimes, in life, we need a few bad days to keep the good ones in perspective.”

Sydney has a great life. She’s studying the subject of her dreams, she’s in love with her long-term boyfriend, Hunter, and rooming with her best friend Tori. She has a job she loves and friends she adores and every night at eight, her mysterious neighbour plays beautiful, talented music on his guitar on the balcony across the courtyard.

Everything is splendid… or is it?

When Sydney finds out her boyfriend is cheating on her, everything comes crashing down. Soon, she finds herself homeless, jobless and very, very angry. Ridge, the mysterious neighbour, extends a helping hand, offering her a place to live in exchange for her helping him write lyrics for his band.

What Sydney discovers about Ridge changes her entire perspective on him and life. Ridge is deaf, but it doesn’t stop him from living his dream… so why should a few bad days stop her from enjoying the good ones?

Colleen Hoover writes a gut-wrenching, heart-pounding, lyrical story of love and overcoming obstacles together, rather than alone, of friendship and forbidden feelings. I fell in love with all the characters, from Ridge and his messy priorities to Sydney and her own messed up priorities, to Warren and his porn addiction and Bridgette who would rather bitch than make friends. I fell in love with them all, flaws and all, and couldn’t stop reading about Ridge and Sydney. Because Ridge is deaf, a lot of the communication between Ridge and Sydney in the book is done through texts and Facebook messages, which was a nice touch, whilst Warren signs and verbalizes for Ridge whenever they talk in a group or have friends round. I loved the way Hoover represented Ridge’s problems, Sydney’s relationships and how each character felt alive and real. This is the first New Adult book I’ve read in a while that made me fall head over heels in love.
