Timothy Nelson & The Infidels - Terror Terror, Hide It Hide It cover

Underneath that voluminous gingerfro Big Timmy Nelson has a cunning plan: to get the world’s kids dancin’ with his irresistibly infectious pop tunes. To do so – as indicated on the band photo on the reverse of the CD – Nelson and his team of rockers and rollers aren’t afraid of embracing a bit of kitsch in order to make their art work, be it clothing, aesthetics or in their tunes themselves.

Synths and cheesy-indie sounds blend with alt-pop rhythms and effects and a lounge-pop aesthetic and yacht rock attitude to – against all odds – create a beguiling mix.

Through Calling Out To You, Do U Need It, the near-disco of All The People, the Bee Gees groove n’ grind of Mary Lou, and more, musically Nelson has his fingerprints over everything, but the contributions of Infidels Luke Dux & Jozef Grech (guitars) Peter Forgers (drums), Hayley-Jane Ayres (strings & keys aplenty) and the rock solid bass of Brad Forest should not be undervalued for a moment.

Cocoa Jackson starts like a Bowie-esque glam stomp before becoming a folk boogie (if such a thing doesn’t exist, it does now), and the whole album is expertly produced by Eskimo Joe’s Joel Quartermain.

Terror Terror, Hide It Hide It is a tour de force, and with 5 WA Music Awards under their belts (from seven nominations!), and touring around the nation this month and January, it looks like Nelson’s plan is well on the road to fruition.
