Let’s give a big welcome, folks, to Tequila Mockingbyrd: a bouncy, rocking 3 piece of ladies from Melbourne who’ve crafted an impressively raunchy debut EP that melds modern hard blues rock chops with good old fashioned classic rock songwriting.
The trio – Estelle Artois, Jess Riley and Josie O’Toole – possess an über-confident attitude, and whilst they’re not exactly breaking any new ground here, they’re grasp of the dynamics of sweaty rock n’ roll is impressive.
One listen to opener Money Tree, the dive bombing Everyone Down or closing track, the bombastic Shut Me Down – with its echoes of Sweden’s Crucified Barbara (though think Oz rock rather than metal) – should be enough to draw in plenty of new fans, and these tracks will no doubt go down a storm on the live stage.
