Twenty Questions with 100% ROCK MAG – Liv Jagrell, frontwoman, SISTER SIN
By Shane Pinnegar
1. What will you be playing on the upcoming tour?
There will of course be a lot of new songs from the upcoming album but also a good amount from all out previous records.
2. What got you into music, and can you tell us about the moment you realised you wanted to be a musician?
Since I was brought up in a very creative family, I started to play flute and piano very early. But when I was 14 I found Nirvana and through that, Courtney Love, who I thought was the coolest thing on earth and I wanted to be like her. So I picked up a guitar and formed my first all-girl band when I was 15.
3. Who are your main five musical influences?
Dee Snider, Sebastian Bach, Aretha Franklin, Glenn Hughes, and Rob Halford as singers. As for music, it’s Pantera all the way!
4. If you could call in any one collaborator to do a song with, who would it be?
Dee Snider for sure! He is still one if the coolest people on Earth and he is still kicking ass, it would be such an honour to sing with him.
5. Who would be your dream band, living or dead?
Dimebag on guitar without a doubt, bass would be Nikki Sixx cuz he is cool, on drums Eric Singer cuz I like his style!
6. How would you describe your music to someone who’d never listened to you before?
Kind of old school heavy metal with the feeling of Accept and Judas Priest with a touch of the newer school of Kreator and In Flames.
7. What’s the coolest thing that a fan has ever done for you?
One guy bought me a super cool jacket and sent it to me all the way in Sweden!
8. Any tips on how to keep in shape on the road?
Stay away from the shittiest fast foods, try to squeeze in 15-20 minutes of body weight exercises every other day, and stay away from the beers! 😉
9. What’s the best thing about being a muso?
It’s to be able to play your songs for an audience and get appreciated for it, it’s amazing!
10. What’s the worst part of touring?
Being away from the people you love…
11. Who was the last legitimate rock star you met in person?
Doro, I have to say, when we toured with her last year.
12. When the band are all hanging out together, who cooks; who gets the drinks in; and who is first to crack out the acoustic guitars for a singalong?
No-one will probably crack out the guitar for singalongs haha! As for cooking, it’s me or [bassist] Strandh, and as for drinks, it’s [guitarist] Jimmy [Hitula].
13. Which act would you like to just give up and go away?
If you mean like a band that should stop playing maybe Kiss. It doesn’t feel like they play for the right reason anymore. Or Reckless Love, I just don’t get that music… nope..
14. What would the band’s superpowers be?
It would be cool if we could clone ourselves, then we would not stress so much. Or turn paper sheets into cash magically!
15. If you could make one band reform, who would you pick?
Pantera, but then you’d have to get Dimebag back from the dead.
16. For the tech-heads, what equipment do you use?
Jimmy uses Randall, Strandh uses Orange and Dave has Crush Drums, for me I’m just out of equipment – I need a new microphone ASAP!
17. If you weren’t a muso, what would be your dream job?
Working with animals somehow!
18. If you were made ruler of the world, what would your first orders be?
Destroy all weapons that ever existed!
19. If you could magically go back in time and be a part of the recording sessions for any one record in history, which would you choose – and what does that record mean to you?
The first Twisted Sister record. It would’ve been so cool to know what was in their heads and how they looked at the industry back then – was it better back in those days or not?
20. What, for you, is the meaning of life??
I don’t know, I’m trying to figure that out!!
Some other stuff you might dig
