I’d like to believe in an alternative universe where talented artists like Adalita Srnsen are treated with the respect and acknowledgement they deserve and paid accordingly.
A national treasure, Adalita lives and breathes rock n’ roll, and her music is high art disguised as down n’ dirty rawk. Featuring poetic lyrics about love and life and longing all written with a keen observational eye and sense of humour, Magic Dirt made six studio albums before the tragic passing of bassist Dean turner, of which What Are Rock Stars… was the third.
Their major label debut for Warners, it’s immediately evident that there’s been a shift in direction – less Sonic Youth feedback-frenzy, more singalonga choruses. It works. Single Dirty Jeans is a classic in the You Am I style, City Trash, Pace It, Rockstars and the irrepressible Supagloo all full of clever lyrics, memorable riffs and more hooks than a Sunday fishing competition.
