Few EPs elicit excitement from me.  Usually, they are either full of weak material, or just a collection of songs that couldn’t fill an album.  The new release from The Black Moods is neither.  “Someone To Save Us” opens with a fuzzy guitar sound and weird intro, but soon it morphs into a solid rocker that highlights the drums and bass as much as it does the guitars and vocals.  The chorus is catchy and adds depth to the track.  “Say It For The Last Time” has a cool rock vibe through the intro that builds into a great rock track that gets the foot going eventually allows both the guitar and bass to carry the track.  “Without A Warning” comes out of the gate like an old Johnny Cash track, with a moody vocal and pissed off guitar, but eventually turns into a great Black Moods track that shows a different dimension to the band.  “Too Late Now” is a cool track that has a funky rhythm highlighted by the drums through the verses, but the band comes together and gels at the chorus.  “Oh No” is another fun track that takes a lot of the cool pieces of each track and blends them into one song.  The vocals accentuate the track, but a cool riff near the end of the chorus stands out and begs to be noticed.  Title track “Killers In The Night” is a great song that should get lots of radio play, as it has a great groove, lofty vocals at the chorus, and solid playing from all three guys.  We can only hope this is just the tip of the iceberg and these guys will build on this and get more music released soon.
