Another day – another promo in the mail. What a way to light up my morning drive to work! This CD single from American Dog is a great lead into the band’s upcoming seventh disc, Neanderthal, which is to be released June 2014. Featuring three version of the lead single, “Who’s She Killing,” this short disc kicks ass. The album version reminds me of classic rock with a Cooper-esque twist. The song has that chugging riff that Alice and his original band made famous in the early 70’s. The lyrics are cool and the vocals tie nicely with the twin guitar attack and the heavy bottom end courtesy of a tight rhythm section. The song is offered in two shorter versions, “Slimmed Down Edit” and “Slim And Trim Edit” for those that want to cut out some of the solos and riffs. The other new track is the party anthem “We Ain’t Gonna Not Get Drunk Tonight.” This is a cool track with great slide guitar and one of the better bridge solos I have heard in a long time – straight out rock that doesn’t rely on tricks or effects. Once again, this band shows its teeth, snarls and growls, and rock and rolls as only they can – doggy style!
