I’m not gonna sit here and diss Def Leppard’s covers album – there’s a few really cool tracks on here, and nothing plunges some of the depths of their ‘pop’ album X, even though not all are great by a long shot.

They do a pretty damn fine update of David Essex’s Rock On – proving it was ripe for dragging into the light of the 20th century. Not to mention The Kink’s Waterloo Sunset, Bowie’s Drive-In Saturdays and Mott’s The Golden Age Of Rock n’ Roll.

The rest is okay, but it’s nothing to write home about… Oh, apart, maybe, from the Phil Collen sung raw barroom brawler take on The Faces Stay With Me. That has a certain charm to it too…
