Stereogum Premieres Title Track from EMPTY FLOWERS’ New Album “FIVE”
EMPTY FLOWERS, the east coast post-rock band featuring current and former members of CABLE has completed work on its sophomore album FIVE. The record is set for an August 9 release in all formats via The Path Less Traveled and Atomic Action! Records. Stereogum, who previously named the band’s debut LP SIX as an “Album of the Week“, gives music fans a first taste of the new EMPTY FLOWERS album, premiering the title track and calling the song “a purposeful blare, pounding in a way that indie bands rarely pound anymore.” Rock EMPTY FLOWERS‘ “Five” and then download the song for free now via Stereogum.
FIVE was recorded by Keith Souza and Seth Manchester at Rhode Island’s Machines with Magnets multimedia arts facility (Battles, Six Finger Satellite, The Body) and is the follow up to the group’s 2012 debut SIX which was called “immediate” by Pitchfork. In keeping with the tradition EMPTY FLOWERS started last year, the band will be releasing remixes of some of the new material sporadically over the course of 2013. Confirmed remixes are in the works from artists and collaborators such as Justin Broadrick (Godflesh, Jesu), Jeff Caxide (Palms, ISIS) and more. Stay tuned!

“Empty Flowers, a post-rock band featuring members of Doghouse/Hydra Head-related Conn. metalcore group Cable, are reminiscent of Girls Against Boys, Honor Roll, Lungfish, and other older acts, in the way they meld speak-sing vocals to slinky minimalist repetition.”– PITCHFORK
“The giant, melting blue-white glacier on the front of Empty Flowers’ debut is a decent indication of what’s in store for your ear holes..it’s enough to chill the air.” – DECIBEL
“Connecticut post-rock outfit Empty Flowers have a reputation that transcends their status as a newly formed band, as Randy Larsen and Bernie Romanowski are members of metallic hardcore turned Southern sludge rock group Cable…the sparer, more precise sound of Empty Flowers often evokes the way that snowfall can simultaneously muffle and amplify sound.” – EXCLAIM!
“In the way the band interlocks its splintered guitar-shards into heavy grooves, they recall Slint, or Polvo, or even Unwound. And in the way that frontman Christian McKenna floats his strained, piercing, mythic yelp over the band’s patient thud, I can’t help but compare them to Lungfish, a parallel I don’t mention lightly…they land in the same deep head-nod territory, and hearing a band so good at that sound gives the rare sensation of scratching an itch I didn’t know I had.” – STEREOGUM
