Humbucker sure love being a rock n’ roll band. So much so that half the songs on their debut album R.O.C.K.S. are ABOUT being in a rock n’ roll band! Not that there’s anything wrong with that – there’s a conviction and passion present which is endearing, and the songs may as well all have invisible arms attached which burst forth from the speakers to slap you until you’re paying attention, then push your head up and down to the music.
Hailing from Norway, this debut album was ten years in the making, and slipped under most people’s radar when originally released in mid 2011. They’ve been making a bit more noise more recently, and thank goodness, as this is a rip snorting record worthy of finding an audience.
The define Humbucker’s sound, we’d have to use AC/DC as our starting point, and then go down a more Eighties road: a pinch of Cinderella, a shake of G n’ R, a little bit of Jack Daniels and a whole lotta fun.
Standouts include opener The Way I Am, the slide-filled Priscilla and the backstage smut of She Blows Me Blind, though you can sling any track on the stereo for a damn good time.
