What Jim Peterik couldn’t do, Jimi Jamison did in grand fashion.  The latest release, ‘Never Too Late’ from Survivor alumni Jimi Jamison demonstrates that once in a while, the voice is all you need.  This disc is killer – night and day from Peterik’s Pride of Lions.  This collection has killer tracks and solid musicianship.

From disc opener “Everybody’s Got A Broken Heart” to “The Great Unknown,” this disc has melodic rock written all over it.  And don’t even think about comparing this to Survivor.  There isn’t a single “Eye Of The Tiger” or “Burning Heart” here… thank God.  The first two tracks are arena style rockers that segue way nicely into the title track, which has that ballad feel, but big sing-a-long chorus, same with “I Can’t Turn Back.”  “Street Survivor” turns the volume and energy back up.  The songs are solid, but the voice is strong as it ever was.

There are more ballads and rockers on this disc – sure to please those that love Survivor, but to make melodic rock lovers throw their lighters in the air in one track and throw horns in the next.  One of my personal favorites is “Not Tonight.”  The lyrics and music play well together, but who hasn’t, at least once in their life, thought, ‘Some day I might miss you, but not tonight’ during an argument or breakup?  This is the ultimate breakup but I’ll be okay song.  The only song that really rings of Survivor would be the final track, “Walk On.”  This is a great song that marries the past and present Jimi Jamison.  So glad my pal Dustin passed this one along to me!
