If there is one band that I didn’t expect to like, it is In This Moment. They were one of those heavy bands from the genre that I really didn’t care for. Then I took the time to check them out – and so glad I did. I am even happier now that I heard the latest offering, ‘Blood.’
If you are familiar with the band, the first single, which also happens to be the title track, will be familiar, yet different. It has the familiar vocals from Maria and crunching guitar licks from Chris Howarth. The song has all the makings of a classic ITM song, while steeping itself in new sounds as well. The vibe from this track carries over to another of my favorites, “Whore.” The lyrics are disturbing and very visual, as are most of the songs this band seems to generate. Just might be one of the things I love about these guys.
Other aggressive tracks that standout are “Adrenalize” and “From The Ashes.” These two songs would be great additions to their live set, as they are listener friendly, yet tracks that will keep the energy up during a live show. This disc also has some very cool pieces that separate the tracks, yet help to tell the story, such as disc opener “Rise With Me” and “It Is Written.” The last two songs on the disc are also all killer, no filler tracks, especially “The Blood Legion.”
Once again, Maria, Chris, and their band have created a journey worth taking. Get a little Blood in your ears…
